Glenn Beck’s Very Scarey Evening
On his radio show yesterday, Beck turned on the tears as he recounted his traumatic evening attending a film at Bryant Park in New York, where his family were nearly lynched (his term) by “the most hateful people I have ever seen. I was told a lot last night about how New York hates people like me.”
Wow. The story is now up on NewsMax, HotAir, and plenty of other conservative sites, with lots of comment space for readers to spew their hatred of New York liberals.
Not mentioned? The letter that was immediately written to and posted by New York Magazine by the very person Beck says attacked him — a 25-year-old woman whose friend accidentally spilled half a glass of wine on Beck’s wife, apologized, and gave her napkins to clean it up. These are the people described by Beck as crazed, hateful attackers. They note (as Beck did not) that he had two bodyguards with him who were policing the whole surrounding crowd for “annoying” behavior and made the evening much less relaxed than Movie Nights at Bryant Park usually are.
The writer concludes her letter: ‘Incidentally, none of us have made a career of “spewing hate” on the radio, or any other media platform. We live our lives intolerant only of those who don’t tolerate: We have chosen New York as our city for that very reason. We do things like go to Bryant Park Movie Night, and vote to legalize gay marriage. We don’t taunt Glen, or his family. And we certainly don’t waste our wine, even on Tanya.’
I know whose version of this story I believe.
